Nicolás Catena Zapata – The pinnacle of Nicolas Catena’s vision – A South American Wine that stands with the best in the world. A Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon blend that brings back the blend that gave rise to the First growths classified in 1855 which were made up primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The 1997 Nicolás Catena Zapata was tasted along with Solaia 1997, Latour 1997, Caymus Special Selection 1997 and Opus One 1997, in the US and London and it came 1st or 2nd in every tasting.
Nicasia Vineyard – Named after Nicolas Catena Zapata’s grandmother, the mother of Angélica Zapata. Laura says that Nicasia was the grandmother that she really knew. Nicasia was the polar opposite to Angélica. Angélica was tough and strict; Nicasia was the kindest, warmest person in the world. When Laura tastes the Nicasia wines, the velvetiness and warmth of these wines make her think of her greatgrandmother Nicasia’s love, and that is why she named the family’s Altamira vineyard (in La Consulta) Nicasia.
Malbec Argentino - This wine represents more than a single vintage. It reflects a family’s century-long journey to produce an Argentine Malbec that can stand with the great wines of the world. Malbec Argentino is a blend of Catena Zapata’s historic Malbec vineyards, Adrianna and Nicasia. The wine is made from a meticulous vine selection within the best, historic rows of these family estate vineyards.
